Honda Activa crosses 1 crore sales milestone in India
The Honda Activa needs no introduction as it has become a household name since its launch in 2001. Such has been the success of this scooter from Honda two wheelers, that it has now crossed the 1 crore sales milestone in India. In the first year itself, the Honda Activa sold 55,000 units and within three years it became a top seller in the 110cc scooter segment. Twenty one lakh units of the scooter were sold in the last financial year and the company also gained a healthy 59% share in the scooter market in India. For the months of June and July 2015, the Activa was the top-selling two-wheeler in the country.
The Activa model that was launched a decade back and the latest model that is available today, are quite different in terms of looks and features. New variants and updates of the Activa have been launched by the company at regular intervals over the years. The brand has stood the test of time and consumers have preferred it over other scooters mainly due to its reliability. When the Activa was initially launched it did not have many competitors, but today`s scooter market is quite different. There are a number of new products in this segment, and most of them are more competent than the Active, but it still has an edge over its rivals, thanks to the unprecedented popularity that brand name evokes.
The Honda Activa is available in three variants namely- Activa i, Activa 3G and Activa 125. Powering the Activa i and Activa 3G is a 109cc motor that belts out 8 HP of power and 9 Nm of torque. The Activa 125 gets its juice from a 124cc engine that generates 8.6 HP of power output and 10.1 Nm of twist. Depending on the variant, the Activa is priced between Rs. 49,853 – Rs. 59,472. The Honda Activa faces stiff competition from the likes of the TVS Scooty Zest and Jupiter, Yamaha Alpha and Ray and the Suzuki Let`s and Access.
