The Future is here! BMW i8 launched in India at whooping Rs 2.28 Crore

BMW i8 launched in India

BMW recently launched its hybrid super car, the i8, in India at a staggering price tag of Rs 2.28 crore. The car is a hybrid, which means it runs on petrol and also has an electric motor that runs along with it. The i8 is the first hybrid supercar to be launched by BMW, and also happens to be the first hybrid sportscar to be launched in the country. The car is going to be made in limited numbers, and only 8 vehicles have been allotted to India for 2015. Owning one of these will be an exclusive, extravagant and expensive (very expensive) affair.

The car features a 3-cylinder petrol engine accompanied by an electric motor. It has a combined power output of 362 PS and produces a torque of 570 Nm. The petrol engine bangs out 131 bhp and 250 Nm of torque and powers the rear wheels via a 6-speed auto box. The electric motor powers the front wheels, and has a top speed of 120kmph with a range of about 37kms. The BMW i8 does a 0-100 in about 4.4 seconds and is electronically limited to a top speed of 250 kmph. What is surprising is that with these astonishing figures, the car has a claimed fuel efficiency average of 47 kilometers to a liter. This is only possible with the help of the electric motor, otherwise even smaller capacity petrol engines don’t give that much of an average (or dare to advertise such a number).

The BMW i8 is the epitome of future technology. It is completely lightweight, as it is made out of strong carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). This ensures safety and strength along with agility. This helps to keep the weight of the car low, hence improving acceleration and also fuel efficiency. The BMW i8 also features laser beam headlamps, a first of its kind on a road car. This is the most advanced technology to be used in headlamps, and it helps in increasing night time visibility by lighting up the road extremely well.

BMW i8 interior

From the outside the beastly BMW i8 hybrid looks like it traveled in from the future. Those thoughts continue when you step into the vehicle. The interiors have been designed and equipped to make sure the car never feels outdated. Interior ambient lighting can be adjusted according to the mood and driving mode. The heads up display too makes its presence felt, along with a host of other gadgets.

The BMW i8 is surely a masterpiece, inside and out (also under the hood). The car is super exclusive, you’d need more than just the cash (2.28Cr) to buy this exotic Bavarian Marque.
