Ford sales up by 105 percent; sells 12,288 units in May

Success in India has come late to Ford Motor. Ford was one of the first global auto makers to enter India in 1996, investing $450 million in its Chennai plant to manufacture 100,000 cars a year. It took Ford nearly a decade to find its foothold in India. Ford India`s sales have been on an upswing ever since the Ecosport was launched. Last year in May Ford India sold 5,993 units (domestic and exports) combined compared to 12, 288 units sold in May this year.

Domestic sales numbers stood at 6,053 vehicles in May compared to 4,002 vehicles sold last year. Exports stood at 6,235 vehicles against 1,991 vehicles in the corresponding period last year. As per reports Vinay Piparsania, executive director of Marketing, Sales and Service at Ford India said that a stable government is required for economic growth and improved business sentiment.

Ford wants the new government to support ongoing industry-friendly initiatives like excise duty reduction and improve measures to boost customer sentiment. Ford India reopened bookings for all variants of its compact SUV “Ecosport” in May. Ford Ecosport received an overwhelming response from customers and Ford has delivered 50,000 Ecosport`s so far. Ford has worked on reducing the waiting period for the Ecosport by running a 24/7 shift at its Chennai plant.

Ford currently sells five models in India namely –Ecosport, Fiesta, Fiesta classic, Figo and Endeavour.
