Ford Figo compact sedan officially unveiled; named Aspire
Ford India recently inaugurated its new plant in Sanand, Gujarat and revealed the new Ford Figo compact sedan named the “Aspire” at the event. The “Aspire” is the official name of the Figo sub-4 metre compact sedan which was showcased at the Auto Expo last year. The company is planning to launch the car in three months’ time in the Indian market.
The Figo Aspire will be the very first product to be rolled out of the Sanand factory. The Aspire is essentially the Ka+ which is already on sale in Brazil.
Ford revealed a few details of the new car which are listed below:-
> It will be powered by a 1.5 TDCi diesel motor and a 1.2 litre TiVCT petrol mill.
> The Figo compact sedan will be the first car in its class to feature side and curtain airbags in addition to the driver and passenger airbags.
> The Figo Aspire will also get Ford`s SYNC with “APPLINK”.
> The car will also get a device docking station which allows car owners to mount and store their MP3 players, navigation systems and smart phones.
> Ford India also plans to export the Figo aspire to international markets.
The sad part is that Ford will be plonking the 1.2 litre petrol engine from the Figo hatchback under the hood of the Aspire with a few tweaks for better performance and mileage. All of us know that this engine lacks grunt and is literally a slouch when it comes to performance. Ford could have offered the more efficient and powerful Ecoboost engine but we don’t know the reason for its omission in the Aspire sedan.
All`s not lost as recent reports indicate that Ford is also testing an automatic variant of the car as well. Hence in all probability the auto box version of the car will get the 1.5 litre TiVCT petrol motor from the Fiesta sedan to satisfy the petrol heads.
