2016 Ford Ecosport facelift unveiled with new interiors and features

Ford Ecosport latest news

Ford Ecosport facelift

American auto giant Ford has just unveiled the Ecosport facelift at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. The Ford Ecosport has been a very successful model for the carmaker across the globe and in India also. Ford was struggling to increase its market share in the Indian automobile market when the company launched the Ecosport, which helped the company find its foothold in the Indian market. The new model gets a few interiors cosmetic changes and loses out on the tail gate mounted spare wheel.

We`re not sure as to why Ford decided to do away with the tail gate mounted spare wheel. Without the spare wheel the compact SUV looks like a hatchback on steroids. Also the placement of the number plate has been shifted from the rear bumper to the tail gate. These are the only exterior cosmetic upgrades that the 2016 Ford Ecosport gets.

Coming to the interior changes, the Ford Ecosport facelift images reveal a slightly tweaked instrument cluster with chrome surrounds. Ford is also providing a light dimming feature. Power switches also get a dose of chrome. The cabin of the existing Ecosport as we all know is quite silent, but the engineers at Ford wanted to make it even more silent by using thicker damping materials for the bonnet and doors. The Ford Ecosport facelift gets heated seats, heated ORVMs and a heated windscreen. We`re not sure if Ford will be offering these features on the Indian spec Ecosport.

The car gets a retuned suspension system with new spring and damper rates to increase the stability of the chassis. The ground clearance also gets a 10mm reduction. To improve the driving experience, the car gets a new power steering and electronic stability control (ESC) system. The engine has also been upgraded to 6.1 emission norms and the TDCi diesel engine produces 5 PS more power. The updated version of the compact SUV will make it to India, but we`re not sure when that would happen. Given the new features the new model will definitely be liked by the Indian consumers. When launched the prices of the new Ecosport will be on the higher side than the outgoing model. Currently the Indian spec Ecosport is priced between Rs 6.75 – 10.20 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
