Ford EcoSport Facelift Spotted In India
Ford has started testing the updated EcoSport in India as the compact SUV was spotted testing recently. Getting a few tweaks on both the exteriors and interiors, Ford’s largest selling vehicle’s main design change includes an updated rear end which loses out on the tailgate mounted spare wheel.
The model seen in the spy shots is actually a left-hand drive variant, which is built alongside the right-hand drive version at the company’s plant in Chennai. This particular version of the EcoSport was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show where Ford had revealed that its European customers will soon be able to buy the famous compact SUV with or without the rear mounted spare wheel. The American car manufacturer had also mentioned that the Ford EcoSport facelift will feature a tweaked/modified chassis with revised spring and damper rates. The ride height will also be reduced by 10mm while the ESP and power steering system will be updated as well.
For the international markets, the compact SUV will get a new instrument cluster with chrome trimmings on the interiors. For the Euro-spec model, minor styling alterations including a new brushed aluminium finish for the front chin and a new alloy wheel design will be made available (different from the Indian version).
Ford has been retailing the EcoSport in India for two years now and the vehicle competes with the likes of the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra Scorpio, Tata Safari and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and Hyundai Creta. Though the EcoSport has been a stellar product which changed the company’s fortunes in our country, the same cannot be said about its fate in European countries where the SUV has not been that well received. It has been highly criticised in Europe for its driving dynamics and interior quality. While the tailgate mounted spare wheel has been highly appreciated in our country, it has been quite the opposite in Europe.
Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the recently spotted Ford EcoSport facelift will be making it to the Indian market in a similar avatar or not.
