The new Ford Ecosport gets LED daytime running lights

Ahead of the festive season, Ford has gone ahead and launched the updated EcoSport in the domestic market at a starting price of Rs 6.80 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Changes made to the compact SUV include minimal revisions on the outside as well as inside, however a prominent change has been made to the diesel motor that now churns out more power.

Coming to the changes made to the exteriors, nothing is new except for the new LED daytime running lights rendering a dash of freshness to the front facade. Some of the additional features that have been incorporated into the new model include automatic head lights, rain sensing wipers, electro-chromic rear-view mirror, light guide and much more. The spare wheel as speculated hasn’t been removed. Ford has added a new colour option – Golden Bronze to the exterior colour palette. Just like the exterior styling, interiors also remain largely same as the outgoing model. Chrome embellishments are evident on the instrument cluster ring, inside door handles, air register tabs, instrument cluster appliqué and window regulator switches.

Moreover, leather upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel and leather covered handbrake lever sums up the leather package on offer. The infotainment system now comes with SYNC system with AppLink that enables a user to interact with the phone while it is placed in the driver’s pocket.

As mentioned above the 1.5 litre TDCi diesel engine has been tuned to produce 100 PS of power which is 9 PS more than the previous version. However, the rise in power output has resulted in minor drop in fuel economy from previous 22.67 kmpl to 22.27 kmpl. The Petrol variants get the same engines that power the outgoing Ford Ecosport model, a 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine producing 125 PS and a 1.5 litre TiVCT gasoline engine producing 112 PS. Fuel economy promised by the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine is 18.88 kmpl while the 1.5 litre TiVCT has a claimed mileage of 15.85 kmpl. Besides infusing these changes, Ford has also inducted a new variant to the model series, christened Trend+. The new trim is available with the 1.5 litre TDCi and 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine options. A six-speed dual-clutch PowerShift automatic tranny is offered as an optional fare on the 1.5 litre TiVCT engine.
