Fiat Punto T-Jet engine produces 135 horses; launch to happen around Diwali
This scoop is going to get Fiat fans and enthusiasts really excited! The only missing puzzle in Fiat India`s line up is a hot hatch to keep the petrol heads happy. The Fiat Punto Evo is a real good handler and its chassis is capable of handling way more power than the 1.4 litre fire petrol engine delivers.
When Fiat launched the Avventura last year speculations were rife that Fiat would launch the Punto with a more powerful T-jet engine. Now we bring you live pictures of a Punto Evo test mule sporting the T-jet petrol mill.
Fiat India will be launching the Punto Evo with a more powerful T-jet petrol motor. As per sources the new engine is rumoured to produce 135bhp of power. The Linea sedan which is powered by the 1.4 T-jet engine churns out 112.4 bhp of power and 207Nm of torque. This same engine on the Fiat Punto is expected to bang out more power, due to the use of a new turbocharger. The interesting part is that Fiat will badge the Punto as an Abarth, which is the Italian carmaker`s performance division.
The Punto Abarth`s specs are worth drooling over and every Fiat fan is waiting for the day when this car will be launched in India. The hot hatch will sport 16 inch alloy wheels and will be equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels. The Punto Abarth will be a driver`s delight and expect Fiat to power it with a manual gearbox. Its main competitor is the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI comes with a 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol mill mated to a 7-speed DSG. The Punto is more powerful than the Polo TSI on paper and will prove to be a winner on the track too.
The car is expected to hit the showrooms this Diwali. The Punto Evo Sport retails at Rs 751,957(ex-showroom, New Delhi). We expect the more fun to drive T-jet to be priced significantly higher than this.
