Fiat commences bookings for Abarth Punto at Rs. 50,000

Abarth Punto 1

Indian launch of what will become the most affordable hot hatch in the country is drawing closer as we speak. Fiat has started accepting bookings for the Abarth Punto Evo for Rs. 50,000. In relation, the showroom price of the upcoming vehicle is expected to be tucked under the Rs. 10 lakh mark in the country. With bookings commenced, the company has also started the ‘Who am I?’ promotional campaign for the car.

In what will solely be a car for enthusiasts in India, the Italian car maker is looking to give the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI some serious competition with the Abarth Punto Evo. The Italian hatchback derives an impressive 145 BHP from its 1.4-litre T-Jet four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, while the torque is rated at 215 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission.

On the visual front, the Abarth Punto Evo is not much different from the Fiat Punto Evo, save for the stylish Scorpion alloy wheels that run on 195/55/R16 tyres, Abarth body decals on the side, Scorpion decals on the front bonnet, contrasting side-view mirrors, contrasting coloured stripes on the front and rear and Abarth logos. The interiors are swathed in black which adds to the sportiness of the cabin, Abarth logo on the steering wheel, aluminium pedals (clutch, brake and accelerator) and fabric upholstery with contrast stitching.

To cope with the additional power that the performance oriented Punto offers from its standard counterpart, Fiat has stiffened up the suspension for a sportier ride and has also given the rear wheels disc brakes. In addition to these, two airbags and ABS will be available as standard for obvious safety reasons.

The Abarth Avventura is expected to follow the Abarth Punto very soon and many reports claim that Fiat is working on an Abarth Linea as well.
