Fiat Announced the Avventura Will be Here in Two Months
Fiat announced recently that the Avventura and the Abarth 500 will likely take to the roads in India by the end of 2014. Both the Abarth 500 and Avventura were showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo in February 2014. The first to cruise the roads will be the Avventura, a ruggedized Punto with a 200 mm ground clearance, larger wheels and tail gate mounted spare wheel. The other distinguishing features of the Avventura are side cladding, roof rails and skid plates.
In its wake we have the Abarth 500, which is similar to the Fiat 500 with an aggressive styling and a power output of 137 bhp from its 1.4 litre turbo engine. The suspension is stiffer for better road handling, especially around the curves. The Abarth 500 arrives in a completely built up condition.
The Avventura has rather neat and understated style at the front with only the headlight cluster adding to the show. At the rear you have a mammoth spare wheel sitting on the tail gate and rear lights have been moved up to the column instead of sitting on the body. Will it sell in sizeable numbers and prove to be a winner for Fiat?
According to rumors the Avventura could have two petrol variants and one diesel option with the 1.3 litre, 4 cylinder engine delivering 20.3 Kmpl. The diesel powerplant has direct injection putting out 75 bhp at 4000 rpm and 197 Nm at 1750 rpm. The petrol versions have a 1.2 litre engine giving about 15.2 Kmpl and a more powerful 1.4 litre version delivering 14.6 Kmpl, with multipoint fuel injection accounting for 88.7 bhp at 6000 rpm and 115 Nm torque at 4500 rpm. The smaller engine is an SOHC unit with 4 cylinders and 8 valves delivering 67 bhp at 6000 rpm and 96 Nm of torque at 2500 rpm. A 5 speed manual transmission is common to all models. While the company has not disclosed specs, the Avventura could have ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear.
Looks are trendy with black trims contrasting with the body tone, complemented with diamond cut alloy wheels. Interiors are also two toned, resembling those of the Punto. The dashboard too is stylish as you would expect in an Italian car and the highlight is the three spoke steering wheel with audio and call buttons. As you can expect air conditioning, power steering, power windows and premium fabric seat covers are standard. ABS and air bags, side impact protection, central locking system and engine immobilizer are some of the other expected features of the Avventura.
