Fiat Abarth 124 Spider spied while undergoing testing
Fiat reignited the 124 Spider name once again after 50 years by unveiling the new 124 Spider at the 2015 LA Motor Show. The iconic name made its debut back in 1966 as a roadster. The new model stays true to its name as well. Looking at the car’s styling, one can easily recognise the fact that it comes from an Italian company.
Based on a lightweight structure, the vehicle will be powered by a 1.4-litre, turbocharged MultiAir petrol engine that produces a good 140 HP of power and 240 Nm of torque. Power is dispersed to the rear wheels through a manual transmission. Adding on to the amusement factor, it looks like Fiat will be launching Abarth variants of the 124 Spider as well.
The Fiat Abarth 124 Spider was just caught testing in Europe. Completely camouflaged, only the 124 Spider’s body silhouette gave the vehicle’s identity away. However, one can easily notice the changes that the Abarth version gets as compared to the standard Fiat. Air scoops on the bonnet have become bigger, wheels are larger and the Abarth gets four rear exhaust pipes instead of two.
Since Abarth is all about power and performance, the Abarth 124 Spider could get an additional 30 HP for the standard/base variant. The mid variant could produce a total of 190 HP, while the top-end EsseEsse trim might be capable of outputting more than 200 HP. But, all these specs are not confirmed as of now. Standard with all Abarths, suspension setup will be made stiffer with various upgrades. Braking configuration will also get an upgrade.
Nothing else about the Fiat Abarth 124 Spider is out in the open. As test runs of the car have already begun, it is expected to hit the international car market in the second half of next year.
