New Fiat 500 front

Fiat has gone and revealed the all new Fiat 500 hatch to the world, becoming the vehicle’s first major update ever since it went on sale in 2007. Changes on the outside includes a revised front and rear design, while the interiors gets a new infotainment system and improved safety features.

Headlight design on the car is updated and so is the case with the front grille as well. LED DRLs are now available with the 500. At the rear end, the taillights are also updated with a unique style which Fiat terms as ’empty light cluster’. It is basically an LED light cluster which is designed in the shape of a cuboid ring.

The interiors of the hot hatch have been refreshed with new upholstery for the seats. According to the Italian company, improved grade materials have been employed in the cabin. The main addition is of a new Uconnect infotainment system which takes up much of the central space on the dashboard, but gives the interiors a major boost aesthetically. The top-end model gets Bluetooth telephony with a touchscreen system.

On the mechanical front, the new Fiat 500 gets the most powerful TwinAir engine which bangs out 105 PS of power and a 1.3-litre Multijet II diesel engine that churns out 95 PS of power. Power will be transferred to the wheels through either a 5-speed, 6-speed or a robotised Dualogic transmission depending on the engine. All engines are Euro 6 compliant and the updated 500 gets larger disc brakes for improved braking, seven airbags including a driver knee airbag which comes as standard. The hatch also gets ABS, EBD, ESC, ASR and hill hold function.

The 2016 Fiat 500 is nowhere close to launch in India because the car didn’t do well in its first stint here, but Fiat might consider to launch the new 500 based on the upcoming 595 Abarth Competizione’s performance which is due for a launch in the country next month.
