The Fiat 500 Abarth to debut in India in November this year
The Italian car maker Fiat is going to conclude its slew of car launches in India for this current calendar year in a big way with the launch of the 500 Abarth. The Fiat 500 Abarth is set to launch in India in November, 2014 which was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo which happened this year. The Fiat 500 Abarth is actually the tweaked performance version of the premium hatchback. The Italian car maker has no plans to launch the regular 500 in the Indian car market.
Post its Indian launch, the Fiat 500 Abarth will be competing with the likes of the BMW 1-Series, Mercedes A-Class, MINI Cooper and Volvo V40 in the segment. The 500 Abarth is not going to be a mass market vehicle and is thus, expected to be available in limited numbers in order to heighten its exclusivity factor. The vehicle will be brought in as a Completely Built Unit, and is expected to be a massive brand builder for the company. To keep its iconic status intact the Fiat 500’s design has been kept virtually unchanged, the Abarth retains its patent looks of the small hatchback which has been further smartened up with the new Abarth updates. What makes the Fiat 500 Abarth different from that of the regular 500, are the Abarth Scorpion logos that replace the Fiat ones, while the Abarth body graphics at the sides are also very eye-catching.
On the inside, the cabin of the Fiat 500 Abarth carries over the patent retro appeal with the two-tone dashboard design, flat bottom steering wheel, plus the car comes packed to the hilt with all the latest creature comforts. Moreover, the vehicle also offers attractive sports seats, parking sensors, panoramic sunroof and 17 inch alloy wheels. It gets additional sportiness with twin-exhausts and the turbo boost gauge along with gear shift indicator. Under the hood, the Fiat 500 Abarth is driven by a MultiAir turbocharged 1.4 litre petrol motor generating 135bhp of max power and 230Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. It can reach 0 to 100 km/hr in just 7.9 seconds along with a top speed of 205 km/hr. The 500 Abarth is equipped with Torque Transfer Control along with an electronic limited slip differential, it also gets lowered suspension with up-rated springs, and disc brakes. Featured safety measures on the 500 Abarth include 7 airbags, ABS with EBD and HBA which come as standard.
The Fiat 500 Abarth is sure to charm the iconic machine lovers along with great creature comforts. Being a CBU, the car is expected to be tagged at around Rs. 25 lakhs. In the international markets, the Fiat 500 Abarth also offers Essesse kit which might be offered as an optional package. The success of the Fiat 500 Abarth hatch could open doors to more Abarth tuned vehicles in India.
