European-spec Suzuki Swift wins Green Apple award

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is a globally popular car and considered to be India’s favorite premium hatchback. However, when it comes to overall quality and safety, the Indian and the global counterparts of the Swift are very dissimilar. Recently, the Indian spec Swift which is the all-time segment ruler has been in news for the wrong reasons. To the horror of the Maruti car lovers in India, Maruti Swift has scored a zero in the Global NCAP crash tests. However, in stark contradiction, the European-spec Suzuki Swift has scored a perfect 5 stars in the same crash tests, clearly pointing out that the Indians are subjected to substandard cars as compared against the global car buyers.

Now, to further reinstate that the European Suzuki Swift is indeed of great quality, the Swift has recently been graced with the honour of the Green Apple award in the UK. Green Apple award is conducted by the Green Organization based on the decision of a jury that includes auto journalists as well as writers. Green Apple award is awarded only to those car manufacturers or car models which are manufactured in such a way that they are environment-friendly as well as of great quality along with great design and drive experience. The Suzuki Swift managed to get silver in the Supermini group, and was praised by the Jury members of the Green Apple award for being a true quality car with everything good and being economical and eco-friendly at the same time.

The Jury at the Green Apple award described the Suzuki Swift as a reasonably frugal vehicle that balances fuel economy with a power packed driving experience, and always remains very reliable. The jury members also added that the Suzuki Swift is not at all pretentious in any aspect and is a truly reliable and dependable car that offers good looks, good built quality, good features and always consumes lesser fuel despite providing a thrilling and engaging driving experience. Thus, the Green Apple award was given to the UK Suzuki Swift for being an overall great car despite being a fuel economical car, which actually causes lesser harm to the environment compared to other fuel hungry cars.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Indian Maruti Suzuki Swift is also a very good car. Now, in the form of the newly launched facelift Swift model, Maruti has even increased the fuel efficiency of the car by about 10 percent. The Indian Maruti Swift is equipped with either the K-Series petrol motor or the DDiS diesel mill under its hood. While the new Swift facelift petrol variant offers an ARAI certified mileage of 20.4 km per litre, the diesel version of the premium hatchback comes with a certified fuel efficiency figure of 25.2 km per litre.

The UK spec Suzuki Swift will soon be equipped with the 1.2 litre Dualjet motor which is even greener with lesser CO2 emissions of 99 gm per km.
