DSK Benelli to offer TNT 600i and TNT 300 with ABS by November 2015
DSK Benelli is on an expansion spree in India and currently retails five products in the country which are – TNT 300, TNT 600i, TNT 600GT, TNT 899 and the TNT R. As per a recent report on Rushlane.com the Italian bike manufacturer is planning to offer four of its models with optional ABS, after having just introduced the limited edition TNT 600i in gold colour.
Chairman of DSK Motowheels, Shirish Kulkarni, mentioned that the company is working on developing its own ABS system in China to keep the cost low, instead of using ready to fit ABS kits from popular suppliers like Brembo which would inflate the cost of the bike by almost Rs. 1 lakh. Mr. Kulkarni said the in-house system would increase the cost of the motorbike by Rs. 30,000 – 40,000, but DSK Benelli is looking at ways to further bring down the cost.
By November this year, the TNT 600i and TNT 300 would receive the optional ABS, while the TNT 600GT and TNT25 will get the anti-lock braking system in a couple of months down the line. The Indian government is set to implement mandatory ABS for two-wheelers in 2017, for which Mr. Kulkarni said that the company is ready to upgrade its entire line-up if the need arises.
With the market for sports bikes in India set to grow exponentially, DSK Benelli would be looking at a major chunk of this pie, with the optional ABS definitely aiding in bringing more customers into its fold.
