Datsun Redi-Go to launch in India on April 14
Datsun India tried to gain market share in the entry-level hatchback segment with its GO and GO+ models, but failed miserably. With its upcoming Redi-GO model the company plans to hit the bulls’ eye this time. Unveiled at 2014 Auto Expo in concept form, Redi-Go was one of the most anticipated product from Nissan. The upcoming Redi-Go hatchback will be launched in India on April 14th as per a report on NDTV Auto. Since the company introduced Redi-GO only as a concept, it will be interesting to see how the production version looks like.
The Datsun Redi-Go is expected to be one of the most affordable products from company’s stable and will be placed below the GO and GO+. The model shares the low cost CMF-A platform with the very popular Renault Kwid and is also said to share lots of features as well. Several spy images which popped up on the internet reveal that the car looks sturdy and contemporary. It is being speculated that the Datsun Redi-Go model will be equipped with the same 3-cylinder 800 cc petrol unit that does duty in the Kwid. It will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox which will be standard across all variants.
Datsun Redi-GO will be fabricated at the Oragadam facility in Tamil Nadu which is owned by Renault-Nissan. Indian customers love for small cars never faded away which makes it one of the most profitable markets. Datsun also plans to export Redi-GO from India to South Africa, this will enable the company to build volumes and also help in finding opportunities in other emerging markets. Talks are also on for manufacturing a left-hand drive version of Redi-GO. Motorcruze will get back with more details once Datsun Redi-Go is launched next month, till then stay tuned!
