Chevrolet Unveils Next-Generation Cruze; India Launch In 2016
Chevrolet has revealed the next generation Cruze to the world, which is a complete update over the outgoing model. Based on the design of its Chinese counterpart, the international 2016 Cruze looks more appealing and elegant than the first. The sedan looks very sporty and aggressive thanks to the redesigned front and rear bumpers. Other changes like a new front grille, awesome looking headlamps with LED DRLs, new set of tail lamps, door placed ORVMs with integrated indicators and new 15 and 17-inch alloy wheels, make the car look very fresh and different.
The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze will also come in a sporty variant called the RS which adds on to the already sexy looking front and rear profile. The RS variant also gets side skirts, a lip spoiler and large 18-inch alloy wheels. The second generation model is based on the company’s all-new D2 FWD platform and which makes the Cruze stiffer and lighter by 27 percent and at least 100 kgs over its predecessor respectively. Even with the reduced weight, the new model measures 4666 mm in length, having grown by 68 mm; 1795 mm in width and 1458 mm in height, getting lowered by 25 mm. The wheelbase has also grown by 15 mm, now measuring 2700 mm.
The interiors are almost the same as the China model, except for a few changes here and there. It’s completely done-up in black colour, supplemented with piano black and brushed aluminium finishes. A 7-inch touchscreen MyLink infotainment system can be found on the centre console, which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A larger 8-inch touch-sensitive display is also being offered as an option and this comes with integrated navigation, while also doubling up as a display for the rear-view camera.
The instrument cluster on the other hand is a 4.2-inch MID. The new international Cruze is powered by a new 1.4-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol unit that is capable of producing 153 HP and 240 Nm of peak torque. The 2016 Cruze will be a front wheel drive car and power will be sent to the front wheels through either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The front suspension is made from MacPherson struts, while the rear gets a torsion beam setup on the L, LS and LT models. However, the top-end model will get a more advanced Z-link setup.
