Chevrolet compact sedan to launch alongside Beat hatchback in 2017
Chevrolet has finally decided to take its operations in India seriously. The American car major has planned out a massive investment amounting to $1 billion for the country which includes launching as many as 10 new models over the coming five years. One of these is the next generation Beat hatchback, which unfortunately will not be the international model that was revealed earlier this year, but is instead the same model featuring many design changes. However, the company has revealed that it will be launching a compact sedan based on the upcoming Beat as well.
Now the compact sedan segment is a fiercely battled space comprising of many capable vehicles like the Maruti Swift DZire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and the upcoming Ford Figo Aspire. The segment finds many buyers month after month and those car manufacturers in India that do not have a product in this segment are looking to bring out their models at the earliest. The Chevrolet compact sedan will be one such product, but its launch is still some time away. The car is slated to make its debut in 2017, alongside the India specific Beat hatchback. The Chevrolet compact sedan will be specially developed for India and is not really a very late product considering the fact that the segment does not seem to die out for a very long time.
It will be powered by the same set of engines that will be found on the hatchback as well, including the family of newly developed 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. No additional details about the Chevrolet compact sedan are available as of now. However, it should be a good looking vehicle with the higher variants getting an automatic transmission, thanks to its rise in popularity. Chevrolet should also be able to price it competitively due to high levels of localization.
