Chevrolet Beat Essentia sub 4-metre compact sedan to debut at 2016 Auto Expo
General Motors is all set to mark its presence in the swift growing sub-compact sedan segment with the Chevrolet Beat Essentia. The compact sedan is based on the Beat hatchback and is ready to be unveiled at Asia’s largest motoring event. The Beat Essentia is a sub 4-metre model, and will benefit from the excise duty reduction as per the norms laid down by the Government of India for small cars. The Essentia is therefore expected to be priced competitively.
With the success of sub 4-metre cars like Maruti Swift Dzire, most of the car makers like Hyundai, Honda, Ford and Tata Motors came forward with their offerings and tasted success in this highly competitive and fast growing segment. With hopes to ignite a spark in this segment, Chevrolet is introducing the Beat Essentia at the Auto Expo 2016, but it will be launched in the first half of 2017. Reports claim that the car is being developed since 2013 and is ready for public display post which testing will be carried out. Upon its launch in 2017, it will be seen locking horns with the Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and Ford Figo Aspire.
Based on the all-new Beat’s M300 platform, the Essentia has been code-named as MCM. The Beat Essentia will be seen sharing the hatchback’s petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variant will be powered by a 4-cylinder 1199 cc engine, while the diesel variant will get a 3-cylinder 936 cc motor. Both the petrol and diesel engines will be coupled with a 5-speed gearbox. The Essentia will supposedly get a stretched wheelbase to make the interiors more spacious. Let’s wait and see if the love for compact sedans in the Indian car market continues to propel with the launch of the Beat Essentia.
