Borgward resurrects from the dead; first product will be an SUV
You must be wondering what is Borgward? Borgward is a German automobile manufacturer founded by Carl F.W. Borgward. The car brand will be making a comeback after a 55 year hiatus and its first product will be an SUV. As per reports the Marque is being revived as part of a partnership with Chinese auto manufacturer Beiqi Foton. The German company has its headquarters in Stuttgart.
Borgward has released some teaser images ahead of the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. We don’t have much details of the new SUV but as per sources it will be powered by petrol and diesel engines as well as a plug-in hybrid motor, available in 2WD and AWD configurations. The new Borgward will be produced in China with design inputs from Germany. The car will be first introduced in China followed by other countries.
Experts are doubtful about the comeback chances of the company as its founders, Christian Borgward and Kartheinz Knoss lack automotive experience. The company has ambitious plans with the dream of selling eight lakh cars worldwide by 2020 and twice the number by 2025. The owners say that Borgward plans to introduce two new models in the market every year till 2020.
