Bolero Camper Gold VX from Mahindra launched at Rs. 6.14 Lakhs
Mahindra’s XUV 500 is going great guns and the Scorpio has its own market share. So where does that leave the Bolero Camper? It sits in the middle and appeals to a specific market segment that wants a stylish utility vehicle. It was getting a bit dated. So Mahindra decided to do something about the Bolero Camper Gold and simply added VX to the name, made a few cosmetic mods and relaunched it at a price of Rs. 6.14 lakhs ex-showroom. The changes can be seen in the dual tone interior which is getting to be a fad with car makers these days and somewhat different graphics on the exteriors. In its favor the Bolero Camper serves the purpose of a general purpose car and a utility vehicle.
What you already have in the Camper Gold is air conditioning and power steering and that makes it a deluxe utility vehicle. Maybe some would like the macho image of driving around in a stylish pickup utility and the Gold VX allows you to do that with a cargo box of 1481 mmx1532x750mm. The previous Gold can carry 710 kgs and the Gold VX maintains the same capability. If traveling around in comfort and style and camping is your lifestyle, the Gold VX is one of the comfortable options around with front suspension coil springs and a rigid leaf spring suspension at the rear. In its new skin the Gold VX has metallic colours and radial tyres. The power plant is the old 2.6 L MDI Diesel outputting 62 BHP and torque of 195 Nm in conjunction with a 5 speed manual gear box. It’s time Mahindra gave it a new motor like the Bolero that sports a CRDi plant. The ground clearance is just right at 215 mm. It’s got plenty of stopping power too with disc brakes at the front and standard drums at the rear.
The Gold VX debuted quietly since there was nothing much in the changes to justify a full scale launch. The Bolero Gold VX is clearly aimed at a specific market segment of yuppies who want an active outdoors lifestyle. Or maybe it will also find favor with the rural rich who want to move around in air conditioned comfort.
