BMW to launch 7-series ActiveHybrid on July 23rd in India
BMW is all geared up to launch its first hybrid model for the Indian market on July 23rd. We`re talking about the 7-series Active Hybrid, which will be the German carmaker`s flagship model, coming through the full import route. This sets the launch pad for BMW`s “I” range of cars expected to hit the Indian shores in a few months, with the futuristic i8 being the first and then the i3.
The Germans are the best when it comes to creating technological marvels and the 7-series active hybrid displays this in full strength. The 7-series active hybrid Beemer`s power output is a combination of a petrol powered engine with two turbochargers and a lithium ion battery capable of generating 40KW of electric power. The combined power output is an incredible 359PS and 500Nm of torque which propels the car from standstill to 100 kmph in 5.7 seconds. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
BMW claims the 7-series active hybrid generates a massive 210Nm of torque just from the electric motor, while at the same time making the active hybrid 14 percent more fuel efficient than the 740Li. The 7-series active hybrid uses a 120 volt lithium ion battery pack to power the air conditioning system to keep additional load off the engine. This helps the air-conditioning system to run while the car`s engine is turned off, thus improving fuel efficiency. The Active Hybrid also gets a hybrid start stop system to save fuel.
After this car BMW will be bringing in the futuristic looking hybrid “i8” to India which looks like a machine seen only in blockbusters sci-fi movies.
