BMW India launches the all-new 2015 MINI Cooper D 3-Door and 5-Door variants
German luxury car major, BMW India has launched the all new 2015 MINI Cooper D 3-door and MINI Cooper D 5-door models in the Indian car market tagged at Rs. 31.85 lakhs and Rs. 35.20 lakhs respectively.
The new generation 3 & 5-door versions of the MINI Cooper D will be competing in the increasingly popular premium compact hatchback segment of India. The 3rd generation MINI Cooper D range is based on the German premium auto major’s new UKL platform which is a radically evolved platform as compared to its predecessor. The all new MINI Cooper D range as a result offers greater visual appeal, enhanced space and advanced technology.
The all new 2015 MINI Cooper D features greatly evolved styling with a more aggressive stance and alluring curvaceous lines. The face of the car retains its patent retro appeal. The 2015 MINI 3-door has grown bigger measuring 3821mm long, 1727mm wide and 1414mm tall, increasing in all the aspects. The wheelbase of the hatchback is also larger by 28mm.
On the other hand, the MINI Cooper D 5-door gets an increased wheelbase of 72 mm, resulting in significantly enhanced interior space. This car does not get any changes on its face, but the added rear doors on its sides have changed the way it looks. The 5-door version is first for MINI and it also comes with enhanced headroom and 60:40 split rear seats.
The third generation of the MINI Cooper D range continues with its retro appeal on the inside as well. However, BMW now makes it more practical than ever. The cabin is now more ergonomically designed to offer more practical usage, while its contrast stitched sports seats add to the charm of the hatchback.
The 2015 MINI Cooper D features a new 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre console. For added fun experience, MINI offers features such as the web radio, new Driving Excitement Analyzer and the MINI Controller for easy infotainment system accessibility. There are also the added capabilities of direct connectivity optional to social media platforms along with i-phone or i-pod connectivity as well.
The new MINI Cooper D will be available in two driving modes including the Sport and Green. The hatchback range is powered by a 1.5 litre 3-cylinder petrol as well as diesel motor options. The 1.5 litre petrol mill generates 136HP of power and 220Nm of torque, while the diesel motor offers 116HP of power and 270Nm of torque.
BMW India is also expected to bring in the top of the line Cooper S and Cooper SD performance versions next year. The Cooper S is powered by a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine churning out 192HP of power and 280Nm of torque, while its diesel model get a 2.0 litre mill generating 170HP and 360Nm.
The 2015 MINI Cooper D will be locking horns with the likes of Mercedes A-Class, Volvo V40 Cross Country, BMW 1-Series and the upcoming Fiat Abarth 500.
