BMW i8 and all new MINI Cooper to launch in India by the first half of 2015
German luxury car giant, BMW will be launching the M3 and the M4 sports car models by the end of the year, while the launches of i8 and new MINI Cooper are scheduled for the first half of next year.
With the Indian luxury car market growing at a steady pace, BMW also had a glorious 2014 with eight new model launches, while two more are yet to take place. BMW has not only introduced its conventional range in India, but also tried to venture into the unexplored segment with the 7-Series Active Hybrid which was launched in July 2014. The German car maker has also confirmed that the BMW i8 Hybrid sports will be launched in India by January 2015, while the all new MINI car will launch by the first half of 2015.
The flagship model BMW i8 Hybrid sports car is an obviously expensive and technologically advanced marvel that was displayed at the 2014 Auto Expo igniting the fantasy of all the Indian car enthusiasts. The BMW i8 will be the country’s first electric hybrid sports car model that will flaunt futuristic styling and built with super light-weight carbon fiber and aluminum. It will be powered by a 1.5 litre petrol motor coupled with an electric motor generating a combined max power of 357 BHP.
BMW added that the sales and service staff for the i8 will be requiring special training to precisely handle this high investment, precious product. BMW plans to set-up special ‘iDealers’ outlets in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai to deal with the hybrid range. BMW will have special facilities for the hybrid cars in its existing dealerships that will require extra investments from BMW’s main dealers. The i8 with an array of technology is expected to be tagged around at a whopping Rs. 2 crore price slab.
Where the iconic MINI Cooper hatchback is concerned, it will come in its third generation model to India next year. The German premium car major offers the all new MINI Cooper in 3-door and the 5-door Countryman that are driven by a range of petrol and diesel motors. BMW might even consider the 5-door version for India as well. The all new MINI Cooper will come as a CBU to India with an expected price range of around Rs. 27 lakhs. The luxury hatch will rival the Mercedes A-Class, Fiat 500 and the upcoming Audi A3 hatchback models.
For this year, BMW will be concluding its slew of new launches with the launch of the hugely popular M3 sedan and the M4 coupe sports cars. Tuned by BMW’s M division, the all new M3 is powered by a 3.0 litre BMW M twin-turbo mill generating 425BHP of max power and 550Nm of peak torque, which is coupled to a 6 speed manual or a 7 speed automatic transmission gearbox. The car also gets DSC, SCC and ceramic brakes to keep it firmly on the road even at excessive speeds. Both the cars will launch soon and are expected to be priced around Rs. 1 crore.
