Bajaj to launch a slew of new bikes in the domestic market in 2015
Indian two-wheeler major, Bajaj Auto has lost some ground to its market rivals such as Honda and TVS in the recent past, as their motorcycle range gained more popularity over the ones provided by Bajaj. Hence, Bajaj is now set to get things right and regain its lost market share. The Indian company has big plans for the domestic two-wheeler market and is ready to begin the New Year with a big bang.
Come 2015, and Bajaj Auto will be offering not one, but three new models to boost its sales. The two-wheeler manufacturing company’s MD, Mr. Rajiv Bajaj revealed this development of the company during a media interview. Rajiv revealed that the company is ready to launch a slew of new offerings between January 2015 to April 2015, and that the company has already lined up as many as 4 new models for launch in India. These new model launches will help the company to gain back a massive expected market share of about 20 to 22 percent. Bajaj Auto’s current market share in the Indian two wheeler market is about 18.5 percent.
Bajaj added by saying that his company is aiming at a minimum 4 lakhs units sales within this current financial year that ends in March 2015. He also expressed his confidence in being comfortably able to meet the sales target of the company. He also threw some light on the general market condition of the Indian two wheeler market and said that the Indian two wheeler mid segment that comprises of the 125cc motorcycles as well as scooters is dwindling while the entry-level segment comprising of 100-110cc two-wheeler models and the high-end sports bike segments are booming.
While Rajiv Bajaj has not specifically mentioned the names of the upcoming models, it is speculated that these 4 new models will be the new Pulsar 200SS and the Pulsar 160NS, the new Platina 100cc and the new refreshed Discover. The new Pulsar 200SS is the faired model of the 200NS naked street bike and is likely to have the same mechanical bits. The other 3 upcoming motorcycles are probably all new models. The Pulsar 160NS will be developed on the platform of the 200NS and will replace the ongoing Pulsar 150. It is expected to be powered by a new 160cc engine. On the other hand, the new Platina could also get a new 4-valve motor and replace the current model. There are no details available about the upcoming new Discover as yet.
