Audi unveils the 2015 Q7 to take on its arch rival the BMW X5
The new Audi Q7 was unveiled right before it was slated to be debuted at the Detroit motor show, and we must say it looks much sharper and leaner than its predecessor.
Technical Specifications: The new Audi Q7 will be powered by 3.0 litre turbo petrol (TFSI), which Audi claims will be efficient by 28%, or a 3 litre Diesel (TDI), which could be up to 23% more efficient.
|Engine||3.0 TFSI||3.0 TDI|
|Fuel consumption||N/A||41.3 MPG|
Above are the specifications mentioned in the official media kit and they look outstanding. These specifications are best in class, especially for an all wheel drive car.
Audi plans to shortly introduce the Audi e-tron Quattro, which is a plug in hybrid with a diesel engine. It boasts of 373 bhp and a torque of 700 Nm, all-wheel drive. A first of its kind. There’s also air suspension, which could lower it by 30mm or increase it by 60, in case you decide to get your hands dirty.
Exterior: 325 Kgs lighter, 37 mm shorter and 15mm narrower, but still got more space than the older model, the Audi Q7 sports and an aggressive stance. Audi has made some dynamic changes as compared to the previous version. The new version sports sharper features and this is a refreshing change from the traditional rounder features Audi has on the previous models of the Q7. Most notably are the aggressive looking headlamps, which sport the signature LEDs. The front grill has been replaced by a more aggressive horizontal design which adds to the aggressive stance of the car. The rear portion of the car has sharper lines, in comparison to the rounder features from the older model. The exhausts have been re-designed from the old circular ones to sharp rectangular ones, which give the car a sportier stance.
Interior: The German luxury carmaker has also updated the Audi MMI all-in-touch-control unit along with an Audi tablet in the back seat with an updated surround sound system. The Audi MMI unit has also been updated to enable the use of Google Android Auto and Apple Carplay, so that it can be integrated with a smartphone. The center console of the Audi Q7 has a futuristic design with camouflaged AC vents and LCD display for Audi MMI.
Pricing: The Audi Q7 is expected to be launched early next year in the US and Europe, and would most likely hit Indian shores by late 2015. It would be priced slightly higher than the current model, and would be pitted against Range Rover Sport, VW touareg and its classic rival, the BMW X5.
