Audi R8 LMX launched in India; first production car to feature high beam laser lighting
German Luxury car maker Audi has just launched the Audi R8 LMX in the country. The car is priced at Rs. 2.97 crore (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Audi R8 LMX is unique from other cars and features high beam laser lighting which is the first in a production car. The company mentioned that only 99 vehicles of the R8 LMX will be manufactured globally, making it a limited edition model.
The company highlighted the importance of the laser lighting technology. The laser headlights get automatically activated once the car reaches a speed of 60 Kmph. One laser module has been incorporated into each headlamp which generates a pyramid of light, double the range of all LED-headlamps. Audi claims the car is the fastest production R8 ever and can do a 0 – 100 in just 3.4 seconds, with a top whack of 320 km/hr. The fusion of laser lighting and LED was used on the Audi R18 e-tron Quattro for the first time at the Le Mans 24 hour race last year.
On the Occasion of the launch Audi India Head Joe King said: “Audi has always been at the forefront in lighting technologies. Audi was the first luxury car manufacturer to bring LED headlights in India…the introduction of the laser headlight to the Audi R8 LMX underscores our leading position in lighting technology.”
“Audi is thus continuing its tradition of using racing to test new technologies destined for production. The limited-edition Audi R8 LMX is the first production car in India to come equipped with laser high beam lighting, a particularly brilliant innovation integrated in a sports car,” King added. He said with the launch of this new model the company will be able to further enhance its position in the Indian market, where it sold 10,851 units crossing the 10,000 milestone for two years in succession.
