Audi to launch A3 Cabriolet in India on 11th December 2014
Luxury car manufacturing giant, Audi had showcased its A3 Cabriolet in India at the 2014 Auto Expo held in February. That time itself it was reported that Audi’s Indian wing will be introducing this sporty version of the Audi A3 sedan towards the end of the current calendar year. Now, the German luxury car major has gone ahead officially announcing about its plans on launching the A3 Cabriolet in India on 11th of December 2014.
The Audi A3 Cabriolet is the sportier and more appealing version of Audi’s very popular A3 sedan. The new Audi A3 Cabriolet is going to be launched in the Indian car market as a part of the company’s strategy to enhance Audi’s brand presence and of course also to expand the company’s product portfolio. Audi has been launching a slew of new car models in the Indian car market this year in order to boost its market presence and sales numbers, so that it can beat market competition which is growing in the luxury car segment. The Audi A3 Cabriolet sports a fabric roof which can be opened and closed as and when desired even while the car is running at speeds of up to 50 kmph. The German luxury car maker claims that the entire process of the fabric roof’s operation takes a bare minimum 18 seconds.
The Audi A3 cabriolet premium sedan is already available in the international car markets for sale. In the global car markets the A3 cabriolet is powered by a range of engines to suit the car buyers’ varying choices. The sedan is available with two comparatively lesser capacity motors namely, the 1.4 litre TFSI and the 1.6 litre TDI motors, while it is also available with two more powerful mills comprising of the 1.8 TFSI litre and the 2.0 litre TFSI motors. The larger and more powerful engine variants of the A3 cabriolet are also available with the more convenient Quattro all 4 wheel drive system option.
For the Indian car market, as Audi is introducing the A3 cabriolet as a sportier car version, there is a good amount of possibility that Audi will be bringing in the All 4 Wheel Drive variant to India as well. Where powertrains are concerned, the Indian spec Audi A3 cabriolet is expected to get the more powerful 1.8 litre TFSI petrol motor. This engine again is expected to be offered in two states of tune namely 180PS of power and 280Nm of peak toque with Quattro AWD, and the other with 180PS and 250 Nm with 2WD. As for the diesel variant of the A3 cabriolet, Audi is likely to offer the 2 litre TDI diesel mill generating 184PS of power and 380Nm of torque.
While the regular Audi A3 is assembled in India, the A3 Cabriolet will be brought as CBU that will make it significantly more costly.
