Around a month after Aprilia announced the SR 150 price in India, the Italian automaker has finally officially launched its most affordable scooter in the Indian market. The Aprilia SR 150 deliveries have begun through India, and the scooter is now available at all Piaggio Vespa dealerships, and the MotoPlex multi-brand dealership network. The Aprilia SR 150 price in India starts at Rs. 65,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), making it compete against some main stream scooters like the Honda Activa 125 Deluxe.

In-line with Aprilia’s racing heritage, the SR 150 launch event was hosted at the prestigious and famous Hard Rock Café in Mumbai. In order to give a racing touch to the event, the SR 150 launch was attended by the Italian world Superstock champion, Lorenzo Savadori. Lorenzo has been associated with Aprilia since the start of his racing career. In 2015, he even won the world championship with four victories and seven podium finishes in the total eight races, while riding on his Aprilia RSV4 RF.

The launch event also saw the unveiling of an exclusive line of Aprilia merchandise which will also be available through the MotoPlex multi-brand dealerships and Piaggio Vespa outlets across the country. And to make things even more interesting, an Aprilia SR 150 experiential ride was created at the venue through an augmented reality game.

What is interesting about this price tag is the fact that the Honda Activa 125 Deluxe variant too is priced at Rs. 65,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This gives an idea about how Aprilia is trying to attack a product that has been ruling the Indian two-wheeler market for more than a decade. Kudos to Aprilia India for the enticing price of SR 150 scooter!

Aprilia is a subsidiary arm of Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. Piaggio is also the owner of the Vespa brand, which currently sells a couple of 150 cc scooters in the market. As a result, the SR 150 will also compete in the same segment where the Vespa duo exists. But in order to provide a significant difference between the two brands, Piaggio has intelligently placed the Vespa scooters as premium retro looking vehicles, while the Aprilia SR 150 is being marketed as a hard-core sporty scooter.

The company claims that the SR 150 will be the first scooter in the Indian market that will combine the ease of riding of a scooter and the nimbleness and agility of a motorcycle.

In order to keep the price well in check, the Aprilia SR 150 will be locally manufactured at the Piaggio India plant in Baramati, Maharashtra. The company has achieved significant levels of localization to further minimize manufacturing costs.

The Aprilia SR 150 price in India will start at Rs. 65,000 ex-showroom. The company hasn’t yet revealed whether multiple variants of the scooter will be offered in the Indian market, priced at different levels, or the SR 150 will be sold as a single variant model.

Aprilia SR 150 India Specifications

Since both Aprilia and Vespa are the sister concerns of Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd., the Aprilia officials have simply borrowed the engine of the Vespa 150 cc scooters for the SR 150. This has not only helped in reducing development and manufacturing costs, but has also helped in giving the SR 150 a trust that has till now been associated with Vespa’s engine technology.

As a result, the Aprilia SR 150 is powered by a 150 cc single cylinder air cooled engine that is mated to a constant mesh CVT gearbox. While power and torque figures haven’t been revealed, it is expected to be around the Vespa’s spec table, which is shown below:

SR 150 India mileage

Official ARAI figures of the Aprilia SR 150 mileage will be revealed only after its official launch in August, but we at MotorCruze expect it to revolve around the 50 kmpl mark. The fact that Aprilia is marketing this new scooter as a sporty vehicle makes the 50 kmpl fuel economy figure significantly satisfactory.
