Aprilia Shiver 900, Dorsoduro 900 – the next Italian horses coming our way!
After entering the gearless scooter market with the SR150, Aprilia’s next launches in India will be completely on the other end of the spectrum. The Shiver 900 and Dorsoduro 900 will soon be coming to India, with an expected price tag of Rs. 13 – 14 lakh. Aprilia hasn’t yet made an official announcement about the launch date of the said bikes, though speculations suggest that they will be introduced in the Indian market around the July – August period this year.
The Shiver 900 and Dorsoduro 900 were globally unveiled at the EICMA motor show in Milan. The two bike were unveiled as replacement models for the respective 750 versions that were previously on sale. In India, we currently have the Dorsoduro 1200, while there are no models from the Shiver series yet. The Shiver is essentially a naked street fighter, while the Dorsoduro is a sports adventure cruising machine.
Under the skin, both the said bikes are essentially built on the same platform and use the same engine options – an 896 cc, V-twin block that churns out 95.2 bhp and 90 Nm of peak torque. The platform features frames made of trellis-type steel tubes that have been bolted on supportive aluminium side plates. Additionally, there is an aluminium rear sub-frame that can be removed on the Dorsoduro in order to install panniers.
Other chassis components include 41 mm inverted forks from Kayaba at the front and an adjustable monoshock at the rear. The bike rides on 6-spoke 17-inch cast aluminium alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the braking setup consists of twin 320 mm discs at the front that are fed by four-piston Brembo calipers, while the rear gets a single 240 mm disc with a single piston Brembo caliper.
Features on offer with the two bikes include dual-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS), EBS, stability control, traction control, and three riding modes – sport, touring and rain.
