2017 Porche 911 RSR Le Mans GTE racer

Porsche has finally graced us by teasing pictures of the new GTE-spec endurance racing 911. The cat is finally out of the bag, never mind even if it’s just the front end that we get to see. What you see here in the lead pic is the 2017 version of the current 911 RSR the body type for which was codenamed- type 991. The pictures of the angry, mean machine were clicked at the company’s test track in Weissach. The car has made its public appearance at the 24-hour race and going by the words of Dr. Frank Steffen Walliser, Head of Porsche Motorsport the development of the new car is as per the schedule.

Throwing light on the Le Mans GTE, it is connected to the World Endurance Championship wherein some of the fastest and most powerful GT cars can be seen racing for 24 hours at a stretch in their production based race version. The list is pretty long but few hot GT cars that can be seen participating are Ferrari 458 Italia GT2, Aston Martin Vantage GT2/GTE, Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, 2016 BMW m3 GT2 etc. Preparing for the rigorous 24-hour challenge, Porche will go on testing its new 911 racer at different tracks all around the world.

Talking about the front of the 2017 911 GTE, it has matt black finish, swept back hood, the front splitter is flat wide and sticks out and has a lower stance unlike its production version. The GTE racer makes extensive use of carbon-fibre for more strength and low weight. Engine details haven’t yet been revealed, however rumors suggest that a tweaked version of the flat-six will be used to deliver massive power output. One can notice wide racing rubber under the flared wheel arches which will help in keeping the power down. That’s all we could gather from the pictures shared, while we wonder what holds back Porche from sharing the rear view of the 2017 Porche 911 RSR Le Mans GTE racer.
