Jeep Compass India launch date revealed – July 31, 2017
Jeep India has finally revealed the official launch date of the Compass SUV in India. The American SUV manufacturer will be introducing its most affordable product in the Indian market on July 31, 2017. Deliveries of the Jeep Compass will begin from the next day, i.e., August 1, 2017.
The Compass will be the third product in Jeep’s Indian line-up. However, the previous two offerings – the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee, have been market duds, thanks to their respective sky-reaching price tags. With the Compass being manufactured locally at the FCA plant in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra, it is expected to be price a bit more sanely.
From last week, the company had started accepting bookings of the Compass through dedicated Jeep outlets and the Jeep India official website. Insider sources reveal that over 1,000 bookings have already been registered for the Compass. This increased interest in the Jeep brand is mainly relying on reports of aggressive pricing of the Compass.
As a result, it is extremely important for Jeep India to price the Compass competitively. All features and variants have already been revealed. And thus, we can speculate that the ideal price range for the Compass will be Rs. 18 lakh to Rs. 24 lakh. If there is a heavy positive deviation from this price range, the Compass will simply follow its elder siblings to the graveyard of the Indian car industry.
Initially, the Jeep Compass SUV in India will be available only with a diesel manual option. This will include a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder MultiJet II engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Output figures will be pegged at 170 BHP and 350 Nm. A 1.4-litre turbo petrol and new automatic transmissions will be added to the Jeep Compass line-up in India at a later date.
The 2017 Compass has been placed in between the Cherokee SUV and the entry-level Renegade and has been fabricated on the stretched version of the 4×4 Small Wide architecture. The production of the SUV has already commenced. The company will cater to many right-hand driven nations and has therefore been developed in both left hand and right hand drive. In the international market, Compass takes place of the Patriot models and the previous model in Jeep’s line-up. Just so you know, Jeep entered the domestic market with Grand Cherokee and Wrangler Unlimited last year. Both these iconic model caters to the elite class and is expensive.
Here’s what we know so far.
2017 Jeep Compass Expected Price in India
We expect the new Compass to be priced aggressively; the base model might be tagged at Rs 16 lakh and can go up to Rs 25 lakh. The vehicles will be assembled locally at Fiat’s Ranjangaon plant Maharashtra; the reduced cost therefore will help the SUV to be an affordable one. If the vehicle is priced as expected it will be one of the most affordable SUVs in its space and will be seen rivalling Honda CRV, Hyundai Tucson and others.
2017 Jeep Compass Probable Launch Date
The exact launch date has not yet been announced but it is being speculated to hit the market by August 2017. The reason why we say so is the high-level of localisation the company plans to have. That said, the new Compass will be unveiled to the press on 12th April, 2017.
