Ford EcoSport 2017 spied without camouflage for the first time
The all-new Ford Ecosport Facelift was spotted in Tamil Nadu for the very first time sans camouflage. The car was spotted in Arpoador Red colour which is a new shade to the Indian market thus indicating that Ford might introduce several new colours as well.
The Ford Ecosport will come stocked with all-new headlamps with projector units and fog lamp enclosure with turn indicators. The grille will be a single piece unit, made up of chromium to give it a decorative and protective finish. Ford will offer an 8-inch touchscreen with Ford’s SYNC 3 AppLink infotainment system and cruise control in its new Ecosport Facelift.
As per online reports the Ecosport facelift is expected to get a new engine option. It will get a new 1.5 L three cylinder petrol engine which will churn out 125-130 PS of power. The engine will feature an automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
The compact SUV might be launched in India by October this year. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 7 lakhs ex-showroom. Ford will also export its SUV to North America by early next year.
The Ford EcoSport 2017 comes with some major cosmetic updates at the front, while the side and rear profiles haven’t been given any major refurbishments. The spotted models adorn a mild camouflage at the front and rear ends, though it isn’t really able to hide the design changes made to the car. The front shows a wide grille that gives the compact SUV a gaping nose. The headlamp assemblies are now much larger than the ones on the current models. Moreover, the top-end trims will have projectors and DRLs in the headlights, which will boost the EcoSport facelift’s desirability factor. The front bumper too is an all-new unit with a bigger air dam and larger fog lamps that have been located slightly above their regular position.
Moving to the side, the EcoSport 2017 retains the silhouette of the current model. However, the cladding now appears to be slightly more understated while the alloy wheels feature a completely new design. The rear also looks similar to the derriere of the current model, with the only changes being in the taillights, bumper and the spare wheel cover.
On the inside, the new EcoSport facelift will get a completely updated dashboard layout. The all-grey dashboard will have some contrasting accents in front of the passenger seats and around the centre console. The steering wheel will be a contemporarily styled three-spoke unit that will also come with integrated control buttons for the music system and the cruise control functionality. The top of the centre console will be home to a floating touchscreen display that will handle all infotainment duties as well as be the output screen for the reverse camera.
No mechanical changes are expected to be made on the EcoSport facelift. As a result, the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel units and the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol will continue to be on offer. All engines will have a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while a 6-speed DCT automatic will be offered as an option on the 1.5-litre petrol power plant.
Ford EcoSport 2017 India launch date
Though Ford India haven’t yet made any official announcement regarding the India launch of the new EcoSport, we expect the automaker to launch it during the festive season this year, as the current iteration of the EcoSport in India is experiencing plummeting sales numbers due to the exponential growth of the newest contender in the segment, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. As a result, the new EcoSport should come in early in order to stop the market drifting away from the product that started it all.
Ford EcoSport 2017 Price in India
As mentioned above, the compact SUV market is a highly competitive segment. With extreme value for money products like the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Mahindra TUV3OO, it is obvious that Ford India won’t really have a leverage to price the EcoSport higher than the above two contenders. Being a Maruti Suzuki, the Vitara Brezza boasts of a brand advantage anyways. And in order to break this advantage, Ford India would need to provide a slight undercut in the new EcoSport prices in India, especially in comparison the Vitara’s price tag.
As a result, we expect the new Ford EcoSport facelift price in India to revolve around 6.5 lakhs to 9.5 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Ford EcoSport 2017 Specifications
|Engine||1.5-litre Ti-VCT Petrol|
|Max Power||110 bhp|
|Max Torque||140 Nm|
|Engine||1.5-litre TDCi Diesel|
|Max Power||99 bhp|
|Max Torque||205 Nm|
|Engine||1.0-litre EcoBoost Petrol|
|Max Power||123.37 bhp|
|Max Torque||170 Nm|
|Gearbox||5-speed Manual and 6-speed Powershift dual-clutch transmission|
Yes these indeed are the same specs that come with the current-model of the EcoSport in India. But the new facelift of this Ford Compact SUV is just a cosmetic update, so we don’t expect Ford India to launch a new engine with it. Moreover, the existing range of petrol and diesel engines has already widely been appreciated in the country, both by customers and critics. As a result, the new Ford EcoSport facelift will likely come with the same 1.5-litre Ti-Vct petrol, 1.5-litre TDCi diesel, and the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine.

2017 Ford EcoSport Exterior design changes
The Ford EcoSport has been a handsome looking compact SUV in its previous iterations. It is one of those rare cases where an under-4m SUV doesn’t look disproportionate. It housed a perfect combination of rugged appeal, and urban friendly appearance. And with the new facelift, Ford is likely planning to retain all these characters of the earlier model, while adding a pinch of freshness to the overall compact SUV’s character.
As mentioned earlier, the side profile of the new EcoSport facelift will largely be the same as that of the previous model. Majority of the changes on the outside have been made to the compact SUV’s face and tail. Various reports and renderings suggest that the EcoSport facelift’s design will be inspired by that of the Ford Kuga and Ford Edge crossover. This means that the new 2017 EcoSport will get a more upright face. Hence, the facelift is expected to come with a revised bumper, higher bonnet shut line, a wider grille, and a new set of headlamps. The newly designed bumper will also feature fog lamps, which will now be housed a lot higher than they were in the previous models, while a faux skid plate will enhance the EcoSport’s rugged character.
Moving to the rear, the global-spec EcoSport might shed the tailgate mounted spare tyre, but the Indian version would most likely get it at the conventional position. This is because of the fact that the tail mounted rear spoiler was an important reason why Indian accepted the EcoSport to be a real SUV, something that it isn’t and just tries to be. Other design elements on the tail gate will include a new set of LED taillights, and subtle chrome detailing on the bootlid.
2017 Ford EcoSport Interior changes
While the exterior changes on the new EcoSport facelift are subtle and minimalistic, the interiors will get a comprehensive makeover. The overall layout and design of the dashboard as well as the features on offer in the cabin have been redefined to make the EcoSport a worthy competitor in the segment. Though in-depth information about the interior changes is still under wraps, the new EcoSport 2017 will get a new steering wheel, a redesigned central console, new HVAC vents, and a re-engineered instrument cluster. Moreover, an 8-inch touchscreen unit will handle the infotainment needs of the occupants, and will also be compatible with rear parking camera, and navigation.

The new Ford EcoSport 2017 facelift will go head-on with rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra TUV3OO, and the upcoming Tata Nexon.
