2016 Volkswagen Vento Facelift Launch in India around Diwali

The 2016 Volkswagen Vento facelift has been spotted testing recently, revealing a completely fresh set of spy shots. The new spotted model makes it apparent that the 2016 Vento facelift will come with multiple cosmetic changes, including LED headlights, black alloys, a new front bumper, and redesigned tail lights.

With no all-new products in the pipeline, Volkswagen India is suffering to keep pace with the growing and expanding Indian automotive Industry. The major cash cows of the company in the Indian market are the Polo and Vento sedans. But both the models haven’t had a comprehensive update ever since they were launched more than 7 years back. This has resulted in an ageing lineup, which is easily being taken over by other manufacturers’ relatively fresh offerings.

Volkswagen did try to stir things a bit by launching its new compact sedan, the VW Ameo in India. But lack of a diesel engine at the time of launch, a relatively disproportionate side profile, and Volkswagen dodgy maintenance costs have resulted in a fairly lukewarm response for the car in India. This has left the German automaker in doubt over its future in the extremely competitive Indian car market.

Hence, the automaker is now planning to bring new updates for its tried and tested product duo – the Polo and the Vento. First one of these two to get the said update will be the elder sedan sibling – the Volkswagen Vento facelift. And as far as recent spy shots are concerned, we are mighty impressed with what Volkswagen has on offing.

2016 Volkswagen Vento facelift changes and updates

Recent spy shots released by Scoopmeister suggest that the 2016 Volkswagen Vento facelift will get full LED headlamps, which will be a first for the segment, or even a segment above. Other changes include a redesigned and well contoured front bumper, while the alloy wheels have been coated in black to add dynamism to the car’s profile. The black insert on the front bumper that joins both the fog lamp housings gets a chrome detailing near the bottom edge.

The updates will not only just be cosmetic, as the German automaker has also added some creature comfort and advance technological features in the upcoming 2016 Vento facelift. These include automatic rain sensing wipers, a wide touchscreen infotainment system which will probably be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto dimming IRVMs, and automatic headlamps.

2016 Volkswagen Vento facelift price in India

The Indian car market is totally unforgiving as far as the price of the car is concerned. Volkswagen acknowledges this fact, something that we learnt with its exceptionally good pricing strategy of the Ameo compact sedan. Hence, we expect that the company won’t be making any major price changes with the new model. Thus, the 2016 VW Vento facelift price in India is expected to start at Rs. 8 lakh, while the top-end model with the LED headlights will probably cost something around Rs. 12 lakh. (All prices ex-showroom Delhi).

2016 Volkswagen Vento Facelift specifications and engine

The Vento facelift will basically be a cosmetic update, with no major changes to the specifications. However, Volkswagen India is currently updating its 1.5-litre TDI engine, which is the reason why it wasn’t introduced with the Ameo compact sedan. Hence, we expect that the automaker will equip the facelifted VW Vento with the new updated diesel engine. Hence, the expected Volkswagen Vento facelift specifications are:

Max Power
Max Torque
1.5-litre TDI Diesel
1.6-litre TSI Petrol
103bhp @ 5250rpm
153Nm @ 3800rpm
1.2-litre TSI Petrol
103bhp @ 5000rpm
175Nm @ 1500rpm – 4100rpm
Interestingly, Volkswagen will also be providing the famous and legendary 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox with the Vento facelift, though it will only be available with the 1.2-litre petrol Vento and the 1.5-litre Diesel model. This automatic gearbox will be an optional extra, while the facelift Vento will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
