2016 Toyota Fortuner’s commercial released, showcases off-roading prowess [Video]

Toyota has received a very good response for the latest generation Fortuner that was unveiled back in the month of August. Based on the International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform that also forms the basis of the Hilux Pick-up Truck and Innova MPV, design wise the new model is not similar to its predecessor in any way. The SUV has a very sleek profile with sharp headlamps and taillights. The wheel arches have been well designed and the side turn indicators have been placed on the ORVMs.

The updated Fortuner has just been launched in Australia. Offered in two-wheel and four-wheel drive variants, it has a ground clearance of 280 mm. The SUV’s commercial has just been released and the video showcases the Fortuner’s talent when it comes to tackling off-roading conditions. Hence, Toyota is marketing it as a complete adventure vehicle that is “Bred for Adventure”.

Mechanically, the existing 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre powertrains have been replaced by a 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel and a 2.8-litre diesel mill. The smaller engine churns out 148 BHP of power, while the larger unit generates 175 BHP of power.

The interior design is new with a very similar design as the Camry. Materials have been finished in light brown and dark brown coloured soft-touch materials that lends a premium feel. The centre console has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control. Other equipment offered includes keyless entry, engine start/stop button, driver information display, cruise control and a new multi-functional steering wheel.

Safety wise it gets 7-airbags, Vehicle Stability Control, ABS, EBD, Traction Control, Brake Assist, Hill-start assist and Downhill Assist. The new Toyota Fortuner is priced at AUD 47,990, which is approximately Rs. 22.7 lakhs (ex-showroom). When brought to India, the popular SUV is expected to be given a price tag in the range of Rs. 28 lakhs (ex-showroom).
