2016 Rolls Royce Dawn revealed prior to Frankfurt Motor Show
The latest kid from the Rolls Royce stable has just been made public. Carrying the name Dawn, the new 2 door, 2+2 convertible reminds up clearly about the Wraith Drophead. According to the company, the Dawn is a completely new product whose 80 percent of all exterior body parts have been newly designed. What also sets the Rolls Royce Dawn apart from the Wraith is the fact that it is powered by a different engine.
This engine is a massive 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine that churns out a healthy 563 BHP of maximum power at 5250 RPM and 780 Nm of peak torque. Considering the size of the engine, 563 BHP of power is not a very good figure. However, the power figure is in line with the company’s standards and adequate enough for a quick spin around the block. What is good is the fact that the 780 Nm of torque is available from just 1500 RPM onwards. The engine comes paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Anyhow, even if one goes and purchases a Rolls Royce, he/she wouldn’t really be going around doing burnouts and setting lap times. The Dawn is a vehicle that has purely been designed for luxury and style. Still, it can reach 100 km/hr from standstill in just 4.9 seconds and go all the way up to a top speed of 250 km/hr.
The foldable fabric roof is actually the quietest ever electric roof that the company has ever made. It takes only 22 seconds for the roof to fold down or vice versa and the same can be done at speeds of up to 50 km/hr. while most 2 doors have problems seating two adult passengers in the rear seats, the Dawn does not seem to create any such problems whatsoever, with quite a lot of legroom available.
The two doors are made in a suicide manner, i.e., they have been hinged at the B pillar. This enables passengers to de-board the Rolls without any problem. On the technical front, the Dawn gets a unique GPS-controlled transmission. This basically helps in detecting what kind of a road the vehicle is travelling on. If it’s a highway, then the gearing will be more open for reaching higher speeds faster by slowly up-shifting. The vehicle also features a rollover protection system for added safety. The Rolls Royce Dawn will be available for sale from November 2015.
