2016 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Special Edition breaks cover at EICMA 2015 – MotorCruze Report
Naked bikes are preferred over their faired counterparts for practical day-to-day city riding and for long distance touring capabilities. The upright handlebars make naked motorcycles very comfortable to ride. Some of the most premium bikes of this category come from manufacturers like BMW, Honda, Yamaha, etc.; however, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R is often considered as the maddest of them all. Its crazy engine is unmatched by any of its rivals making it one hell of a motorcycle in the premium category.
Not many people can think what an updated KTM 1290 Super Duke R will offer more than its previous model. But the company has just unveiled the 2016 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Special Edition at the Milan Motor Show. The new edition offers a better hardware package that includes various new components all over the motorcycle.
Visually, the bike gets a ‘Galvano Orange’ and white paint scheme on the alloy wheels and bodywork. Other than that the brake fluid reservoirs and clutch gets anodized aluminium orange caps, the generator gets a carbon finished cover and the two-part seat’s height has further been increased by 2mm, though the reason for this is still unknown.
On the hardware front, the triple clamps have been made stiffer, petal disc brakes have been fitted on both the wheels, the clutch and brake levers are now adjustable and the stock exhaust has been replaced by an Akrapovic exhaust system that makes the bike lighter by 1.5 kg. Though the company has not revealed how much premium this model will charge over its standard counterpart, KTM should demand a bit more and not too much. Though the special edition gets a host of changes, the standard black model looks and feels like a much better and practical bike. But KTM has revealed that the 2016 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Special Edition will only be retailed in the international market for a limited period.
