2016 Ducati Monster 1200 R officially revealed
The latest product to join the Monster portfolio is the new 1200 R. Becoming the most powerful and technologically rich Monster till date, the 1200 R carries an impressive design. The new street fighter is higher than the Monster 1200 S and gets a newly designed tailpiece that is both compact and high slung as well. As a result of this, the number plate holder is also high.
Riding on Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres that measures 120/70 ZR17 at the front and 200/55xZR17 at the rear, the Monster 1200 R is driven by a 1200cc, liquid-cooled, 4 valves per cylinder, twin-cylinder engine that is capable of churning out 160 HP at 9250 RPM and 131.4 Nm of torque at 7750 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper action on over-run. The forged wheels, lightweight rear end and components made from carbon fibre help in keeping the latest bike’s weight low, even lesser than the 1200 S.
Featuring a new suspension setup, the 1200 R has a single sport seat with a newly designed passenger seat cover. The front fender is purely made from carbon fibre thereby keeping the bike’s total kerb weight down to 180 kgs. On the technological front, the bike comes with an 8-level traction control system and a 3-level ABS as part of the Ducati Safety Pack.
Other than these, the instrument cluster is a full-colour TFT unit, exhaust has pentagonal section twin-aluminium mufflers, two 330mm radially mounted semi floating Brembo disc brakes at the front and a 245mm disc with a 2-piston calliper brake at the rear.
The 2016 Ducati Monster 1200 R will be retailed with a choice of two colours – Thrilling Black and Ducati Red. It is expected to do well in the international market and the Italian two-wheeler manufacturer will bring the model to our country in the future.
