2016 Audi A4 India price starts at Rs. 38.10 lakh
The all-new, 2016 Audi A4 has been launched in India. Prices of the new A4 start at Rs. 38.10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new Audi car in India will be available in only two variants: Plus and Technology. The top-end Audi A4 Technology costs Rs. 41.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Bookings of the A4 have been started across all Audi dealerships in the country, while deliveries will begin from early next month, i.e., October 2016.
The all-new Audi A4 was unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, as a 2016 model. It is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform, often referred to as the MLB 2. It also features the German automaker’s latest design philosophy, which we first saw in its flagship sedan offering, the Audi A7. As a result, the new A4 comes with Audi’s new hexagonal, single frame grille, that sits flush in the body dimensions, unlike the previous generation’s grille that projected a bit outside of the car’s nose. Moreover, the headlamps now get a set of unconventionally designed, separated twin DRLs, which have been given a ‘7’ shape. There aren’t much changes on the side, as the silhouette of the new A4 looks identical to the one of the previous model. However, the new sedan does get a redesigned set of 17-inch alloy wheels.
Dimensionally, the new Audi A4 is 4,726 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width and 1,427 mm in height. The wheelbase of the Audi sedan is stretched to 2,820 mm. The aforementioned dimensions make the 2016 A4 25 mm longer and 16 mm wider than the model it replaces. The wheelbase too has been given an increment of 12 mm.
2016 Audi A4 Specifications
The biggest disappointment in the package of the 2016 Audi A4 is its specifications. The A4 is currently available only in its 30 TFSI guise. This means that the solitary engine on offer is a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol, which is good for generating 148 BHP and 250 Nm of torque. While the smaller engine does give a satisfactory fuel economy of 17.84 km/l (according to ARAI), it doesn’t really have the pull and feel of a premium luxury car, especially south of 30 lakh.
Moreover, the Audi A4 30 TFSI gets a 7-speed DSG gearbox, something that is known for its failures and technical issues. Audi hasn’t even given the Quattro All Wheel Drive (AWD) system even as an option on the new A4. And the package is further destroyed by the fact that it is a FWD (Front Wheel Drive) setup, rather than the fun-oriented Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) arrangement found on its predecessor.
Audi did announce that there would be a diesel variant on offer later in the car’s lifespan. Hope the oil burner brings n=in some much needed respite in this parameter.
