The Volkswagen Vento has never been a crowd favourite. The car appeals to a particular set of buyers who like superb build quality, a good handling sedan and a contemporary design. With rivals such as the City, Ciaz and Verna, the Vento’s sales have been very low over the past few months. In this regard, Volkswagen has just launched the 2015 Vento in the country that features minor changes to the exteriors and a few changes to the engines for improved fuel efficiency as well, at a starting price of Rs. 7.85 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The car looks the same overall but gets a few changes here and there to make it look fresh. There is a new bonnet, new 3-slat chrome grille and a redesigned front bumper with new air intakes on the front of the car, while the side profile remains the same except for new alloy wheels, electrically foldable ORVMs with LED indicators and chrome inserts on the door handles. The rear end gets newly designed tail lamps, a new bumper, chrome exhaust tip and chrome strips over the number plate housing and between the rear reflectors.

The interiors have the same layout as the previous version. The Trendline and Comfortline variants get a Cloud Titanschwarz colour schemed cabin, while the top-end Highline variant gets a Walnut Desert Beige colour theme with leatherette upholstery.

The Vento is powered by three engines. The first is a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder MPI engine which produces 105 PS of power at 5250 RPM, 153 Nm of torque at 3800 RPM and comes paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The second is a 1.2-litre TSI engine that produces 105 PS of power at 5000 RPM, 175 Nm of torque between 1500-4100 RPM and comes paired to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. The diesel mill is a 1.5-litre TDI unit which churns out 105 PS of power at 4400 RPM and 250 Nm of torque between 1500-2500 RPM. This engine comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Fuel efficiency of all models has improved by 7 percent. On the safety front, all models come equipped with dual front airbags, while the automatic versions get ESP and cruise control as standard. The Vento now also features cornering fog lights as well.
