2015 Mahindra Thar CRDe launched at Rs. 8.03 lakhs
Mahindra & Mahindra has just launched the Thar CRDe facelift in our country at a price tag of Rs. 8.03 lakhs (ex-showroom, Nashik). The all-out off-roader has received many updates on the interiors and exteriors to make the vehicle look fresher. However, only the CDRe variant gets the changes attracting to urban oriented customers, while the DI variant is still the same and remains to be a favourite for those who hit the beaten track often.
Changes on the outside are very minimal, including plastic front and rear bumpers (previous ones were made from metal), wheel arches with black cladding housing the front turn indicators, clear lens headlamps and a new side step. The soft top can be removed whenever needed and can also be traded for a hard top that is available as an accessory.
Interiors of the updated Thar have been given a massive update, in line with the other updated Mahindra products. The dashboard is finished in a dual-tone black and beige colour scheme, the centre console gets a big ‘THAR’ badge, empty space for integrating an audio system, new AC vents with a silver finish, new steering wheel, new chrome ringed 3-pod instrument cluster, new gear lever and a new black AWD shifter. The 4×4 SUV is offered with a wide range of accessories to customize the vehicle as per the customer’s wishes including cool looking alloy wheels, a hard top, changes to the interior fittings and much more.
The Mahindra Thar facelift continues to draw power from the 2.5-litre CRDe diesel engine that bangs out 105 BHP and 247 Nm of torque. The other engine is a 2.5-litre direct injection (DI) mill which churns out 63 BHP and 182.5 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission drives power to all the wheels through BorgWarner’s All-Wheel Drive system.
Overall, the new Mahindra Thar CRDe has become a much better looking vehicle, but its exorbitant price tag will only serve to a niche class of buyers in the country who are looking for a classy off-roader which comes with no-holds barred customization options.
